Shoulder or Arm Pain Treatment
Dr. Flurry has over 20 years of experience treating shoulder and arm pain. Arm and shoulder pain is any type of pain or discomfort in the arm, which is considered the area from the shoulder joint to the wrist joint. Your arms are made up of bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and blood vessels, all of which are subject to injury, infection, or other conditions that can be painful.
Arm and shoulder pain can arise from a variety of causes, including from accidental trauma, sports-related injuries, or nerve conditions. Discomfort associated with arm or shoulder pain is very often not related to an injury at all. Spinal disorders or injuries in the upper back can create this pain. The pain could be originating in another part of the body such as the neck. This type of pain is called referred pain. It can cause difficulty using or raising arms and carrying objects. The brachial plexus, the group of nerves located in the neck and shoulder, carry signals between one's spinal cord and arms. If these nerves are pinched, compressed, or otherwise damaged, painful sensations can arise.
Flurry Chiropractic will diagnose and treat arm pain associated with a back or neck disorder or a potential injury. Through careful examination and a unique treatment plan, our goal is to help you return to a pain-free lifestyle without invasive procedures.
Arm or shoulder pain may last briefly or be constant, and it may affect your entire arm or only a particular area. Your pain may feel achy, piercing or tingly. Pain-like sensations, often described as pins and needles, prickling, or burning are called paresthesias. The pain may be simply irritating and uncomfortable, or it can be so debilitating that you cannot move your arm. These problems should not be ignored and should be immediately addressed.

Other symptoms may occur with arm or shoulder pain. Symptoms vary depending on the underlying condition. Flurry Chiropractic will first diagnose the cause of the pain before determining the best treatment. Sometimes arm pain is due to overuse, injury, or age-related wear and tear on the muscles, bones, joints, tendons and ligaments of the arm. Usually these conditions are not serious and you can prevent and treat overuse and minor injuries with self-care and lifestyle changes. For example, proper rest in between periods of exertion and abstaining from extreme sports without proper conditioning are two practical methods of avoiding trauma to the arm.

Tingles in your hands are a warning sign of spinal-related disorders. If you are experiencing arm pain or a tingling sensation radiating from your neck down your arm, do not discount the pain as an isolated occurrence. Although arm pain may not seem like a severe issue at first, it is important to make an appointment with us to diagnose the problems and to ensure that there is not an underlying condition requiring serious medical attention. These warning signs may be related to serious back and neck disorders such as spinal stenosis or herniated discs, or may result due to nerve compression from tight neck, shoulder and upper chest musculature. This type of compression ofter results from prolonged sitting, working at a computer and driving which changes the postural balance of the upper body and results in neurovascular compression. From writing to picking up heavy objects to merely walking up stairs, arm pain can inhibit your ability to live your everyday life to the fullest, so it is important to call us as soon as you notice any of these symptoms.
